We are delighted to welcome emerging artist Robin Ashmore to the 73 Art Agency family. Her compositions are brimming with expressive colors, lines, and shapes. The painter is particularly inspired by the works of early modernists Alice Trumbull Mason and Augustus Vincent Tack, as well as the iconic American artist Alma Thomas. She credits her positive artistic journey to her mentor and teacher, Sandra Kaplan.
In the Flow of Change series, the artist explores the significance of our constant desire to be in another place, physically and emotionally, i.e. what the Germans call Wandel. The artist depicts a progression, reading from left to right, starting with hard-lined shapes and ending in curvy, organic outlines. The movement is tempered by primitive colors, creating a sense of grounding. In other paintings, Ashmore merges these yearnings in integrated compositions. The reality is that such Wandel are typically messy and convoluted, and ultimately perhaps more holistic.
Robin Ashmore's most recent works (2024) embody a vibrant interplay of color and form, drawing inspiration from Alma Thomas, whose artwork is currently being showcased at the Denver Art Museum. Much like Thomas, Ashmore creates a distinctive abstract style where color transcends mere visual representation, evoking a multi-sensory experience that resonates with sound, movement, and emotion.
Her compositions reflect a deep appreciation for nature, just as Thomas who found inspiration both through her kitchen window and the vastness of outer space. In a world often marked by turbulence, Ashmore, who shares Thomas's belief in the healing power of beauty, channels her experiences and observations into art that cultivates joy and connection.
